Lord of the Abyss by Nalini Singh

Description

Once upon a time…the Blood Sorcerer vanquished the kingdom of Elden. To save their children, the queen scattered them to safety and the king filled them with vengeance. Only a magical timepiece connects the four royal heirs…and time is running out.…

As the dark Lord who condemns souls to damnation in the Abyss, Micah is nothing but a feared monster wrapped in impenetrable black armor. He has no idea he is the last heir of Elden, its last hope. Only one woman knows—the daughter of his enemy.

Liliana is nothing like her father, the Blood Sorcerer who’d cursed Micah. She sees past Micah’s armor to the prince inside. A prince whose sinful touch she craves. But first she has to brave his dark, dangerous lair and help him remember. Because they only have till midnight to save Elden.

My Review:

Lord of the Abyss (Royal House of Shadows, #4)
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Micah was just a child of 5 when his parents were killed. The spell they cast sent him to the Black Castle, home of the Guardian of the Abyss. When the current Guardian retired, Micah was choosen to take his place. With no memory of his past, he protects the world from the shadows that escape the abyss. Liliana is the daughter of the Blood Sorcer. After decades of him torturing her, she finally escapes in an attempt to save Elden from her father. Landing in the Black Castle through her own blood magic, she is stunned by the innocence of Micah. He protects and fights, but knows very little of the real world outside his castle. As she tries to help him remember, both struggle with their feelings for each other. But secrets are being held, and they only have until midnight to save Elden.

Let me just say that I LOVED THIS BOOK! It is Beauty and the Beast meets Persephone and Hades (How can you beat a Fairy tale retelling spliced with a little bit of Greek Mythology retelling? You can't!). Micah, though he battles nightly to protect the world from escapees from the Abyss (Hell as we would know it), he is innocent in how to behave, how to react to others, and how to treat others. While, Liliana is the "ugly" daughter of the Blood Sorcer, and she is trying to make amends for what her father has done. Everything she does has to do with righting some wrong he has done. It is only when she meets Micah that she starts thinking of doing some things for herself.

The writing was wonderful, and I love how Micah, in his own fashion, courts Liliana and how Liliana tries to "civilize" Micah. There were points where I was laughing at the ridiculousness of the whole situation, and crying over the torment they had both faced. Overall, this is a great book, and I highly recommend it. But, read the other books first!

**Some adult scenes, not appropriate for some readers.***

Happy Reading!

  2. Stephanie, I have the same addiction to any retelling of Beauty and the Beast as well. What is it about that story that attracts us?
