First Drop of Crimson by Jeaniene Frost

Description

From the New York Times bestselling author of the Night Huntress series comes a breathtaking new journey to the dark side of desire.
The night is not safe for mortals. Denise MacGregor knows all too well what lurks in the shadows—her best friend is half-vampire Cat Crawfield—and she has already lost more than the average human could bear. But her family's past is wrapped in secrets and shrouded in darkness—and a demon shapeshifter has marked Denise as prey. Now her survival depends on an immortal who lusts for a taste of her.
He is Spade, a powerful, mysterious vampire who has walked the earth for centuries and is now duty-bound to protect this endangered, alluring human—even if it means destroying his own kind. Denise may arouse his deepest hungers, but Spade knows he must fight his urge to have her as they face the nightmare together . . .
Because once the first crimson drop falls, they will both be lost.

My Review
First Drop of Crimson (Night Huntress World, #1)
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Denise, best friend of Cat, has completely left the supernatural world after her husband died in a zombie attack. But fate doesn’t agree with her. A demon is killing off her family members, and has now marked her with demon brands, and the only person who can help her is Spade, vampire and best friend of Bones. Spade has sworn that he would never love another human again after losing his first love to a human death. They both feel that they can’t be together because of their differences, and neither can (or will) change. Will Spade and Denise be able defeat the demon and save each other from their mind sets about human and vampire?
For those of you who were hoping that Spade would have a wonderful story, you got it. Full of action, some romance and quickly learning about demons, this story will have you on the edge of your seat at least a few times.
I personally loved the struggle of wills between Denise and Spade. Both don’t want to love each other, but there has always been that underlying attraction, and it gets stronger as you read through the book. The way Spade tries to protect Denise is both sexy and irritating. You want him to lighten up just a bit, but you still want him to play the knight in shining armor.
I love Denise’s feisty personality. She is willing to fight for those she cares about, and will not be cowed by those who mean her harm. And even when it goes against everything she wants, she is willing to make a decision to sacrifice whatever is needed.
Overall, I enjoyed this book, though I did miss seeing Cat and Bones as much, I think this book is a great addition to the Night Huntress series.
Highly Recommend!
