Eternal Kiss of Darkness by Jeaniene Frost

Description

An immortal war has been brewing in the darkness . . . And now one woman has stumbled into the shadows.

Chicago private investigator Kira Graceling should have just kept on walking. But her sense of duty refused to let her ignore the moans of pain coming from inside a warehouse just before dawn. Suddenly she finds herself in a world she's only imagined in her worst nightmares.

At the center is Mencheres, a breathtaking Master vampire who thought he'd seen it all. Then Kira appears, this fearless, beautiful . . . human who braved death to rescue him. Though he burns for her, keeping Kira in his world means risking her life. Yet sending her away is unthinkable.

But with danger closing in, Mencheres must choose either the woman he craves, or embracing the darkest magic to defeat an enemy bent on his eternal destruction.

My Review

Eternal Kiss of Darkness (Night Huntress World, #2)
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Mencheres is one of the few oldest vampires still alive, but he has his mind set towards his own death. Because of one of his own kind set on taking his powers and the loneliness of his own life, Mencheres has decided to allow his death to happen as a type of suicide by ghoul. Then Kira enters into his life by trying to save him, he feels that his imminent death can be postponed till Kira has had her memories wiped. But things are not that easy: Kira is one of the few humans who cannot have their memory wiped. Yet there is more to it than that. As Mencheres struggles with his own death wish, Kira reignites his desire for love and a desire to live. But Mencheres still has one vampire that won’t let him change his mind. Will Mencheres be able to save his own life and Kira’s as well?
So let me begin by saying that Mencheres was never my favorite vamp to walk into one of Ms. Frost’s books, but now, I really kind of like him. He has many regrets, but how can you not when you are thousands of years old. Knowing his back story, his life as not only a vampire but before that even, helped me to learn better about who he was so that you could understand the decisions that he had made.
Personally, Kira is my favorite out of this book. She is a competent, strong-willed woman who isn’t afraid to go after what she wants. She has survived horrible things but has survived and grown stronger for it. Her whole character made me love her. You wanted her to get her happily-ever-after.
Again, we also have the return of other great characters like Vlad, Cat, Bones, Spade and Denise as well as getting to know other characters better like the Law Guardians and Mencheres.
I loved the word play that Ms. Frost threw in there at the beginning, but you don’t even realize it till almost the end. I personally thought it was a great touch to the story!
Overall, this is a great book, and I highly recommend it!

**Adult scenes involved. Not appropriate for all readers.**

Happy Reading!
