Lord of the Vampires by Gena Showalter

Description:
Once upon a time…the Blood Sorcerer vanquished the kingdom of Elden. To save their children, the queen scattered them to safety and the king filled them with a need for vengeance. Only a magical timepiece connects the four royal heirs…and time is running out.

Nicolai the Vampire is renowned for his virility, but in a cruel twist of fate “The Dark Seducer” has become a sex slave in the kingdom of Delfina—stripped of his precious timepiece and his memory. All that remains is a primal need for freedom, revenge—and the only woman who can help him.

When the wanton vampire summons Jane Parker, she is helpless to obey. She's drawn to his dark sexuality and into his magical realm. But for this human, all is not a fairy tale. For saving Nicolai could mean losing the only man she's ever craved...

My Review:

Lord of the Vampires (Royal House of Shadows, #1)
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

In a world parallel to ours, there is the country of Elden where witches, werewolves, vampires, and even humans live. The Blood Sorcerer came and killed the King and Queen, and in their dying breaths, the King and Queen sent their four children into the rest of the world with the urge to seek revenge (from the King) and to survive (from the Queen). Nicolai, the eldest and a Living Vampire, gets sent to a country where he is made into a sex slave. It is only when Jane (from Earth) is brought to his country by a book, does his chance for freedom come.
This is a wonderful story. As with those familiar with Ms. Showalter’s work, you can’t help but love her characters. Nicolai is a cocky, self-absorbed, and very over-sexed vampire looking to escape from his master (who in part reminds me of a troll by the description). Jane is a wounded woman, both in body and in spirit, after losing her family to a car accident. Nicolai brought Jane to his world for selfish reasons only to realize that he was wrong when he falls in love.
I love that you see a change in Nicolai’s character and even Jane’s character. You want them to succeed and to survive the trials set before them so that they can live “happily ever after”.
Will warn all readers, very adult scenes, and (though very enjoyable to read), this book might not be appropriate for all readers!

  1. I've heard of Showalter's books before but I've never read one before!
