What would you do if an unknown penis (no man connected) was in your bed every night, preventing you from sleeping, because it is bothering your butt? And what if you, the virgin princess, didn't know what it was because your parents had never explained to you the facts of life? And what if the only way you discovered to sleep through the night was to put it between your legs? Well, that would be the story of Amalia, the virgin princess.

This light-hearted tale tells of what a King, his wife, his two sisters, and his daughter's ladies-in-waiting have to do to protect the chastity of the princess, to ensure that she marries a wealthy prince to save their Kingdom. With many play on words and wonderful ending, this short story will leaving you laughing through the day!

It also carries a wonderful moral: If you don't educate your children, especially your daughters, they might just have to figure out what the strange penis in their bed might need to do!

I recommend for a quick read!

As the first book in the Human Vampire series, it will help to educate you in the ways of live human vampires. When you first meet Julia Brown, you meet an understated engineer who is in desperate need to change her life, make it exciting or at least something to make her humdrum less humdrum. After a fortune teller and a bad "date", she goes to a La Luxure, a underground bar that seems to serve goths. There she meets Armand Laroque, and there is an instant connection. Then a death occurs and she feels that he is somehow connected to it. Through it all, you wonder will they be able to be together, or will their differences keep them apart?

When I first started reading this book, I was pretty sure I knew who was what and what was who. I will say that I was pleasantly surprised through this book as I learned about Live Human Vampires, some blood fetishes, and the beauty of New Orleans. There are some great twists, and you learn to love the characters quickly -- Julia's sister Claire reminds me too much of a friend I had in college!--
I can't wait to read the next book, and am looking forward to more from Ms. Hussey.

Q. How has your reading habits changed since you were a teen? or If you are still a teen what new genres are you in love with currently?

Well, unfortunately, I can say little has changed since I was a teen.  I was the teen with the "bodice rippers"... Yep, probably shouldn't have read those at 13, but oh well.  I do branch out a bit more.  I read mostly paranormal and fantasy, anything faireytale based, but I now mix in some Christian fiction, historical fiction, a little bit of mystery.  I'm will to try any genre once, maybe twice. After the 2nd time, I normally won't try again.  I still love my "bodice rippers".  They make me happy :)

Why am I waiting for it?


Well, if you haven't read The Drake Chronicles, then you are missing out on a good read.  They are 1. Easy to read, 2. Nothing too deep, but not too easy/boring that makes you put the book down, 3. They are just plan fun to read!


I got addicted to the first 3 about 4 months ago, and I highly recommend them.  I love how Alyxandra writes her characters, and how she spins her own web on how vampires are, what type of vampires there are, and which are friend and which are foe.  I think that if you take the chance to read some of her work, you might get addicted just like me to her vampire teen/ya books.

My Review:

The Demon Lover by Juliet Dark


My rating: 3 of 5 stars


The book is really deserving of a 3.5, but goodreads doesn't believe in 1/2 stars :P.  Now the cover, it gets 10 stars... Yes, so the cover whore says!


So Callie moves to a town that is full of faries, witches, daemons, and much more magical creatures to teach at a local college, only she doesn't realize it. While there, she is being haunted by some pretty erotic dreams, but as it turns out, she is being possessed (literally and figuratively) by an incubus. When she realizes it, the local magical community come together to help her out, but things get stranger as a lot of the college students and staff are getting sick, there is a curse on one student who you want rescued, and there is a mystery with Liam Doyle and Frank.


So when I first started to read this book, I was like, "This is going slow...Where's the Incubus?" Then I figured out, "Oh, that is the Incubus". Then she does a spell to get rid of him, but it fails (but not to her knowledge... and you don't really know it until it is too late). Then you fall in love with Liam, but be crushed.


I loved Ralph the Doormouse, cute as a button, deserved some more page time. I would love to have a mouse just like him. I fell in love with Liam, wishing that he could be real and safe for Callie.  Loved the scene where they are banishing the incubus, banishing Liam, and the final fight sequence with the real villain.

A little disappointed that I knew who the villain was within the first 100 pages (and there is technically 370 pages). But, it could be that I knew that because of the villain's name, because the meaning really screamed-- "VILLAIN!"


I HATED HOW THIS BOOK ENDS! First of all, Callie was such a strong character until the final 2 chapters where she becomes a GIANT wuss. She bends to her grandmother's will, even though deep down inside she realizes it wrong (or at least I hope so, otherwise she is a sucky heroine), and she is alone at the end of the book. She isn't content, she isn't happy, she isn't anything but realizing that she really did love her incubus. Yep, sucky! Second point, the incubus saves her from an evil demon/fairy/succubus/whatever you want to call it and yet, she still punishes him. How horrible is that? You want him to be rewarded for what he did, for her to actually work towards finding a way for them to be together without her dying. Honestly, the whole book left me feeling like there was no resolution-- the curse wasn't broken, no lovers were joined together for happily ever after, no good news at the end.


There were some slow parts, that I think could have disappeared, but overall, it was a great read. It is a descent book, and I think everyone should give it a chance.
