It's Monday: What Are You Reading?

Well, Monday has rolled around and it is time to see what I'm reading.
What I'm reading right now....

Blood and Guitars by Heather Jensen

Description:
When Aurora meets Trey, a famous singer and musician, she's only hoping to get her fill of human blood for the week. The last thing Aurora expects is for Trey to make her feel alive for the first time since she was, well, alive. It begins with a casual painting lesson at her art studio, The Waking Moon, and quickly turns into a forbidden romance. Aurora is forced to hide her true identity from Trey, while keeping her relationship with the human a secret from other vampires in her Brood.

Trey's band is recording a new album and with Aurora as his muse, Trey is writing songs like never before. After being hired by their record label to paint the cover of the new album, Aurora has a legitimate reason for spending so much time with Trey and his band mates. Aurora can't deny the unexpected connection she has with Trey, which is fueled by glimpses into his emotions every time they share a kiss. Caught between two worlds, Aurora must attend celebrity award shows and vampire rituals, find time to feed, and protect Trey from the dangers of the night, all while preserving her secrets.

What I think so far:
So, this book is really good so far.  Almost 1/2 way through, and I love the characters.  You can't go wrong when you mix Vampires and music!

Next on the list...
The Island of Living Trees and The Mystery of Hurtleberry House by C. L. Ragsdale
Inhuman by Danielle Q. Lee
Centauriad #1: Daughter of the Centaurs by K. K. Ross

And hopefully: The Girl of Fire and Thorns by Rae Carson.

The Princess and The Penis

Description:

A beautiful, chaste, and completely naive princess encounters a strange lump in her mattress. The lump soon morphs into a shape familiar to everyone but her, triggering her curiosity and her father's greatest fears. He frantically tries to intervene, but having a large phantom phallus in a curious maiden's bed is never a good combination.

My Review:

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

What would you do if an unknown penis (no man connected) was in your bed every night, preventing you from sleeping, because it is bothering your butt? And what if you, the virgin princess, didn't know what it was because your parents had never explained to you the facts of life? And what if the only way you discovered to sleep through the night was to put it between your legs? Well, that would be the story of Amalia, the virgin princess.

This light-hearted tale tells of what a King, his wife, his two sisters, and his daughter's ladies-in-waiting have to do to protect the chastity of the princess, to ensure that she marries a wealthy prince to save their Kingdom. With many play on words and wonderful ending, this short story will leaving you laughing through the day!

It also carries a wonderful moral: If you don't educate your children, especially your daughters, they might just have to figure out what the strange penis in their bed might need to do!

I recommend for a quick read!

La Luxure: Discover Your Blood Lust by C.D. Hussey

Description:

Deep in the heart of the French Quarter, where the Bourbon Street revelry is nothing more than a far off whisper, underground blood-bar La Luxure beckons those with darker tastes through its narrow archway.

When tourist Julia Brown stumbles unwittingly into Luxure, she first thinks it's nothing more than a swanky Goth club. But when a patron is found dead on the street, drained of blood and covered in bites and marks, Julia begins to fear there's something more sinister lurking below the sleek interior.

And at the center of it all is Armand Laroque, who awakens a lust she never knew existed and a temptation impossible to resist.

My Review:

La Luxure: Discover Your Blood Lust (Book 1)La Luxure: Discover Your Blood Lust by C.D. Hussey

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

As the first book in the Human Vampire series, it will help to educate you in the ways of live human vampires. When you first meet Julia Brown, you meet an understated engineer who is in desperate need to change her life, make it exciting or at least something to make her humdrum less humdrum. After a fortune teller and a bad "date", she goes to a La Luxure, a underground bar that seems to serve goths. There she meets Armand Laroque, and there is an instant connection. Then a death occurs and she feels that he is somehow connected to it. Through it all, you wonder will they be able to be together, or will their differences keep them apart?

When I first started reading this book, I was pretty sure I knew who was what and what was who. I will say that I was pleasantly surprised through this book as I learned about Live Human Vampires, some blood fetishes, and the beauty of New Orleans. There are some great twists, and you learn to love the characters quickly -- Julia's sister Claire reminds me too much of a friend I had in college!--
I can't wait to read the next book, and am looking forward to more from Ms. Hussey.

This weeks question:

Q. How has your reading habits changed since you were a teen? or If you are still a teen what new genres are you in love with currently?

Well, unfortunately, I can say little has changed since I was a teen.  I was the teen with the "bodice rippers"... Yep, probably shouldn't have read those at 13, but oh well.  I do branch out a bit more.  I read mostly paranormal and fantasy, anything faireytale based, but I now mix in some Christian fiction, historical fiction, a little bit of mystery.  I'm will to try any genre once, maybe twice. After the 2nd time, I normally won't try again.  I still love my "bodice rippers".  They make me happy :)

So what about you?

Waiting On Wednesday: Bleeding Hearts by Alyxandra Harvey

"Waiting On" Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted here (Breaking The Spine), that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

This week's pre-publication "can't-wait-to-read" selection is:

The Drakes and friends will be tested when an infestation of deadly vampires threatens Violet Hill.

Lucy's cousin Christabel has come to live in Violet Hill, and adjusting to the difference between life in a small mountain town and her home in the city is difficult enough. The strict curfew that Lucy's parents enforce is the worst part. Something really dangerous couldn't possibly happen in this tiny town.
But Christabel has noticed some mysterious happenings, and it seems like Lucy, her boyfriend Nicholas and his brother Connor are all in on a secret that Christabel doesn't understand—one that seems deadly serious. Although she won't admit it, Christabel would love to be in on any secret with Connor Drake. But when she is kidnapped by the ruthless Hel-Blar vampires, Christabel must cause more and more trouble in Violet Hill, Lucy and Connor finally fill Christabel in on all the undead drama. Together, they must find a way to stamp out the Hel-Blar for good.

Why am I waiting for it?

Well, if you haven't read The Drake Chronicles, then you are missing out on a good read.  They are 1. Easy to read, 2. Nothing too deep, but not too easy/boring that makes you put the book down, 3. They are just plan fun to read!

I got addicted to the first 3 about 4 months ago, and I highly recommend them.  I love how Alyxandra writes her characters, and how she spins her own web on how vampires are, what type of vampires there are, and which are friend and which are foe.  I think that if you take the chance to read some of her work, you might get addicted just like me to her vampire teen/ya books.
