The Shadow Wolf by Bonnie Vanak

The Shadow Wolf
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Description:

On the run from authorities, gutsy Megan Moraine knows shadow wolves like herself have no place in this world. But she's still prepared to do anything to protect her young charges. That resolve is tested when the trio is captured by Gabriel Robichaux. Everyone knows that Gabriel is a ruthless bounty hunter, a member of an elite group called the Enforcers. Why then is Megan so attracted to her enemy—a wolf who hunts his own people? A wolf whose languid, sexy drawl makes her dream the impossible?

My Review:

Megan is a special breed of werewolf, a shadow wolf. This means she can become invisible as well as shapeshift into a wolf. She is on the run with her cousins in effort to give them a new life, away from the persecution for them being a shadow wolf. Gabriel is an enforcer, special werewolf police, who has a deep secret that only his family knows. Trying to atone for a past mistake, he takes Megan and her cousins into custody to protect them and get them new lives.

Now, this is the 4th book in the Draicon Werewolves series, but I will tell you this will not effect how it is read. This is a great stand-alone book.

I loved this book. I read it in 18 hours (I was more than willing to give up on sleep to read this book!), and it was completely worth it. The writing was fast pace and had a great story line. The thought of racism within an already unique population was a great story line to go with. And there are more than just werewolves. There are vampires, fae, demons, and so much more.

I loved the chemistry between Megan and Gabriel. Both are hurting, both are looking for healing through one form or another, but when they discover that they are lifemates, they are too scared to reveal themselves to each other. At times you want to just reach through the book and shake them a few good times to shake some sense into them!

Overall, I highly recommend this book, and I plan on reading the rest of this series!

**There are some adult scenes to this novel, so this novel is not appropriate for all ages.**

Waiting on Wednesday: Changeling Dawn by Dani Harper

"Waiting On" Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted here, that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

This week's pre-publication "can't-wait-to-read" selection is:

Description:
RUN

Shadow and moonlight merge beneath her bare feet,
the forest floor blurring as she flees the dogs and torches. Werewolf, monster -- those are the names given her kind by the humans who hate them.

HUNT

Kenzie Macleod has spent her whole life hiding what she is, and she’s not about to open up to any man, even one as powerfully attractive as wildlife expert Josh Talarkoteen. But legend says that a Changeling cannot escape the call of her true mate, even in the wilderness of backcountry Alaska.

MATE

An isolated archeological site, a terrified Changeling cub, a secretive research center -- as Kenzie and Josh face the ultimate betrayal, his obsidian eyes promise untold pleasure and hint at dark secrets of his own

Why am I dying for it?
  1. I loved the first 2 books.  They were beautifully written and I can't help but admit, I read them both in 24 hours!
  2. I love changelings!  Really, who wouldn't love them?  Well, I'm sure there are some out there who don't, but I don't understand them.
  3. I love how Ms. Harper writes.  She has a wonderful way with words, and I personally think that her sense of humor is absolutely wonderful.... And I find it hilarious how she has the skill to get me to yell at the book characters, and to want to find a transporter into her books.
  4. Look at that lovely cover... Hmmm Cover lust!
  5. I am excited to meet the sister that was mentioned so much in the other books.  And to top it all off, it is in Alaska... What a beautiful, wild state to fall in love!

Early Review: Twilight Fulfilled by Maggie Shayne

Twilight Fulfilled (Wings in the Night, #18)
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Description:

Utanapishtim has paid dearly for the sin of creating the vampire race—imprisoned in a living death for centuries, driven to near madness. With a single white-hot glance, he immolates his descendants…and the vampire Armageddon begins.
Beautiful and deadly Brigit Poe, not wholly vampire but fiercely loyal to that shared bloodline, is called into action. She abhors yet cannot deny her destiny: to vanquish the once-great king of the immortals and save the vampire race.
Two warriors, equally matched in power and determination, are soon locked in an unwinnable battle, only to discover a passion so shocking it threatens every truth they've ever known—even as they must face one final battle that seems fated to end in death and heartbreak for them both.

My review:

Bridget Poe, self described (and family described) "bad twin" is given the assignment to kill the Father of the Vampires, Utana. As a 1/4 vampire, 3/4 human, she is the only one who can. So begins the final battle to save all vampire kind from destruction by both humans and their forefather.

First let me say, that though this is the 18th (and appears to be final) book of a series, this book can be read as a stand alone book.

I personally loved this book. Bridget's sense of humor, though occasionally dark, is full of snarky and witty things. She is frustrated by her family (and her own self) for thinking that she is the "bad twin", she so desperately wants to earn the acceptance that she feels that she isn't getting. Utana is a man from the beginning of time, before the Great Flood, has been in a living death for thousands of years, only to be resurrected in modern-day America. He is literally out of his mind because of being trap for thousands of years, and he is seeking redemption for what he feels is a his crime. Together, they make an amazing couple... He is the strong ancient man with old fashioned values, while she is a modern woman use to being in charge. The dynamics are delightfully hilarious, especially her responses to his ancient manly comments.

I highly recommend this book, and I'm definitely planning to read the rest of the books too!

**Be warned there are a couple of scenes that might not be appropriate for certain audiences.**

It's Monday, What are you reading?

It's Monday! What are you reading is hosted by Book Journey . Each week we spotlight the books we are reading, planning on reading or just finished reading.

What I read last week:
Now, I didn't read as much as I normally would.  This week has been hectic, and it is amazing how much it effected my reading schedule!

Plus a few books you'll never know about :)

Currently Reading:

This is what I'm reading, and there will be more added to this list I'm sure!

Next Week's Reading:

I'll be honest, I'm now so far behind, that I'll have to try and catch up before I start thinking about next week!

Follow Friday (7)

Q. Have you ever wanted a villain to win at the end of a story?  If so, which one??

A.  Could it be that they were a villain at first, but then changed?  I know this is a difficult question.  I don't think there has ever been a villain that I have wanted to win. Normally, I'm the girl that wants to kick butt and make the villain pay for his/her evil ways (however I deem a worthy punishment).  But over all, never really wanted a villain to win.

Early Review: Lord of Rage by Jill Monroe

Description:

Once upon a time...the Blood Sorcerer vanquished the kingdom of Elden.

To save their children, the queen scattered them to safety and the king filled them with vengeance. Only a magical timepiece connects the four royal heirs...and time is running out....

Princess Breena had been dreaming of her warrior lover when she was ripped from her Elden castle and thrown into a strange, dangerous realm. Lost and alone, she prayed for survival and vengeance for her stolen kingdom. She found both in a woodland cottage...in a dark bear of a man.

The golden-haired beauty had eaten his food and slept in his bed when Osborn found her. Though he wanted to awaken his virgin princess to carnal pleasures, Breena wanted more—including his warrior skills. Skills the once-legendary mercenary had long buried. Now Osborn had a choice—risk his life or deny his princess her fairy-tale ending.

My review:

Lord of Rage (Royal House of Shadows, #2)

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

In a world parallel to ours, there is the country of Elden where witches, werewolves, vampires, and even humans live. The Blood Sorcerer came and killed the King and Queen, and in their dying breaths, the King and Queen sent their four children into the rest of the world with the urge to seek revenge (from the King) and to survive (from the Queen). Brenna, the only girl out of the four children, watched the King and queen die. Then she was transported to the land of Ursa. There she meets Osborn, a berserker with a broken heart and a rage like no other, and his two brothers. Problem after problem occur, and you can't help but think that they might not make it.

I personally loved this story the most. It was like a retelling of Goldilocks and the three bears (Ursa.... Love the play of words for this!). Brenna is an innocent princess, while Osborn is a worldly warrior. The fights and the romancing was beautiful in this story. I love how Brenna grows as a character, leaving behind the innocent princess and becoming a warrior prepared to fight for her land and her people. Also, Osborn becomes less of a bear (love playing with words!) and becomes a man worthy of a princess.

Highly recommend this book!

Will warn all readers, very adult scenes, and (though very enjoyable to read), this book might not be appropriate for all readers!

Waiting on Wednesday: Dreaming Awake by Gwen Hayes

"Waiting On" Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted here, that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

This week's pre-publication "can't-wait-to-read" selection is:

Dreaming Awake by Gwen Hayes

Description:

She fell for him in a nighttime world. But the time for dreaming is past—and the here-and-now can be just as fragile their love…

When Theia Alderson first encountered a mysterious, handsome boy in her dreams, she never imagined how finding Haden Black—and falling in love—could change her life. To save Haden, Theia sacrificed everything. And the dangerous bargain she made could have lasting repercussions.

Now Theia has returned to Serendipity Falls, and she finds herself struggling with the same deadly hungers that have tortured Haden. When students at their high school fall prey to a mysterious illness, Theia can’t help but wonder if Haden’s control is slipping—and how much longer she’ll have a grip on her own.

And still the nightmare realm of Under won’t let them go. Someone from Haden’s past is determined to destroy Theia from the inside out, starting with those closest to her, forcing Theia to choose between family and friends and a love that may have been doomed from the start…
Why?
#1. I loved the first book Falling Under .
#2.  Look at that cover!
#3. Read the title, love it!
#4. Just because he is imaginary, in a book, and a little bit evil, I'd go after Haden in a HEARTBEAT!
#5. Breaks up the monotony of vampires, werewolves/changelings, faries/fae, and a lot of the other common stuff out there.
