Waiting on Wednesday: First Bite by Dani Harper

Waiting On Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.
This week's pre-publication "can't-wait-to-read" selection is:

Description:

Geneva “Neva” Ross doesn’t want to die. But now that she’s been turned into a werewolf against her will, she’ll do anything to protect her family and friends…even if that means taking her own life.

After witnessing Neva’s leap from a high ledge, Travis Williamson—a Changeling with a dark past—uses his powers to save her life. He feels a connection to the strong-willed woman whose eyes flash that familiar Changeling green. While Neva is hospitalized, Travis risks everything to kidnap her, knowing the approaching full moon will put everyone in jeopardy.

Bickering constantly to hide their growing attraction, Travis and Neva run from the authorities…and from Neva’s sinister sire, Meredith de la Ronde. Meredith delights in creating new shape-shifters and compelling them to do her dark bidding; now Neva must join Meredith’s murderous wolf pack…or die.
Coming out on October 15, 2013

Why?

  1. OMG, I loved her first Changeling series, and have been dying for the next book (or any book from her), so of course I'm excited about this book!
  2. I think this book is going to be darker than her prior changeling series (thus the series title being "Dark Wolf")...  So I can't wait to see how it goes.
  3. This sounds like a great book, with a lot of twists, turns and some potential hotness :)
  4. Look at the cover, you just feel the tension in it.  Love when a cover conveys some emotion that you have to just read it.

So what are you waiting for?

Interview with Clare Davidson, Author of Reaper's Rhythm

For those who don't know, my favorite type of interview is the Fill In the Blank Interview. Just for the fact that it leave everything up for interpretation :)... So here is the fill in the blank interview with Clare Davidson!
1.                   My characters are fun to write because they have a mind of their own and they never get tired of reminding me of that fact.
2.                   Tom is the best husband in the world, because he lets me find time to write.
3.                   My husband, my daughter and chocolate are the 3 things that I would NEVER live without because I wouldn’t be who I am without Tom and Eleanor, they are literally my world and I love them both so much. That was a mushy answer, wasn’t it? The chocolate part should be self-explanatory.
4.                   I love writing because I enjoy inventing new worlds and, as a bonus, I get to make readers smile, too.
5.                   When I write, I love distractions. I can write in coffee shops, in front of the TV, on holiday… As long as I’m in the right frame of mind I can write anywhere.
6.                   The next project I intend to tackle is the second book in the Hidden trilogy (aka the follow up to Reaper’s Rhythm.
7.                   If I were a character in my book, I’d be Sophie. She’s the steadfast best friend who is always willing to help out or give Kim a hug.
8.                   If the zombie apocalypse happened, I’d be holed up with my family, learning how to use a shotgun pronto. The only true stopper is a headshot.
9.                   Oh no! Writers block has occurred!  Now I will eat chocolate and hope it goes away. What’s that? You want a sensible answer? I’ll use the ‘write or die’ web app and hope it goes away.
10.       My favorite thing about my newest book is The cover, which is beautiful. Oh and the story and the characters and… is it cheating to say “all of it”?

11 The 3 reasons you should read my book are it’s entertaining, magical, and full of mystery.

Happy Reading!

Count Down to Release... Reaper's Rhythm by Clare Davidson

An oversized photograph of Charley stands on an easel at the front. I freeze and stare at her charming smile, unable to squeeze a breath out of my lungs. I recognise the photo. It was taken the evening of her year 11 prom. She was wearing a peach ball gown with a sequined bodice that wrapped tightly around her torso. The skirt splayed out like a waterfall. Her blond curls were piled on top of her head and her makeup was expertly applied to accentuate her angular cheek bones and her full red lips. It’s exactly how I remember Charley: beautiful and confident.

Audio Book: Driving Mr. Dead by Molly Harper

Description:

HELL ON WHEELS

After failing as a magician's assistant, a photographer, and most recently, a bride, Miranda Puckett takes a position as a driver for Beeline, Half-Moon Hollow's premiere vampire concierge service.

Miranda's assignment? Driving Collin Sutherland, the world's most fastidious vampire from Washington to Kentucky, so he can deliver a mysterious black case to Council official Ophelia Lambert.

Collin, a paranoid, aristocratic vampire with a debilitating fear of flying, refuses to let the case out of his sight. Miranda needs this time on the road to decide whether to permanently cut her ties with the fiance that had an "emotional affair" with a childhood pal, but Collin’s neatnik tendencies are driving her around the bend. The man acts as if leaving a fast food wrapped on the passenger seat is reason for a full-on CDC de-contamination scrub-down of the car. All she can do is promise to stop intentionally doing the things that make his stiff upper lip twitch with irritation.

As more and more mishaps occur on the road trip from hell, Miranda and Collin work together to meet his delivery deadline. Hotel rooms are destroyed. Beloved cars are defiled. And somewhere along the line, client-driver hostilities become snarky flirtation.

Will Collin and Miranda make it to the Hollow in one piece? And if they do, will Miranda leave old, safe relationships behind for something new and well, just plain weird?

Review:

Driving Mr. Dead by Molly Harper
5 out of 5

Of all of the books that I’ve read this year, this one is the funniest so far!  I loved it all the way through to the end!  I think I relate to this story even more because a year ago I did a cross country trip of moving my mom from Seattle, Washington to Upstate South Carolina… Thank God we didn’t have the events that transpired for Miranda and Collin.

Miranda is a character that I absolutely love!  She is so relatable to me.  I mean, I’m accident prone, but she is like me to the extreme… to the point that you kind of want to avoid her in case you get caught in the cross fire!  I love how she is trying to find herself through her different jobs, and some of those prior job history stories made me giggle like a child high on sugar!

So, Collin’s OCD, overly-planned, ruled-by-rules lifestyle would drive me nuts!  But as he changed/evolved into a more likeable character, I think I started to like him. I mean, he loosened up, found a sense of humor and braved through the disastrous events that plagued his cross country trip.

The events of this trip make me glad that I’ve never had that many disasters happen to me at one time.  Between the rooster, the boobs, the ravine, the cellar (though some of that was just plain delish), the pawn shop, all the way to the final revelation of what they were transporting was hilarious.  I couldn’t help but be glad it wasn’t me!

Got to really meet Ophelia in this book.  I think I’m scared of a fictional character!  *Shiver

Overall, this is a very good book.  I highly recommend it!
